Smith will be invited to join other state winners on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in a weeklong education program focusing on international conflict resolution. Winners will compete for national scholarship awards up to $10,000.
WSU junior heads to athletic seminar
Brittnie Holmgren, a Weber State University junior majoring in athletic training, has been selected as one of 20 students who will attend the second annual Athletic Training Student Leadership Seminar in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Thursday through Saturday.
The seminar is for two students from each of the 10 National Athletic Training Association (NATA) districts. The Collegiate Sports Medicine Foundation provides a scholarship that includes travel to and from the conference, as well as lodging and meals for each participant. Holmgren was the only student from Utah selected to attend.
During the conference, students will study the future of athletic training, graduate school opportunities, career development and organizational skills.
Teacher to attend high court institute
David Keyes, a social studies specialist for the Salt Lake City School District, will travel to Washington, D.C., next month to attend the prestigious Supreme Court Summer Institute.
Open to teachers who demonstrate outstanding ability in the field of law-related and civic education, the institute is co-sponsored by Street Law Inc. and the Supreme Court Historical Society.
Participants will study recent Supreme Court cases in detail and will learn innovative teaching methods for conveying information to students.
