So far this year, the Utah Highway Patrol has confiscated more than 1,000 pounds of marijuana and other drugs like methamphetamine, cocaine and Ecstasy from Utah interstates considered major pipelines for drug trafficking.

The latest busts occurred over the weekend on Interstate 70, where UHP troopers seized four pounds of marijuana on Friday, two pounds on Saturday and a pound of cocaine on Sunday, said Sgt. Steve Salas. Another 14 pounds of marijuana were confiscated Saturday or Sunday, said UHP spokesman Preston Raban.

The busts were part of a saturation sting along sections of I-70 that ended Monday. The drugs are coming from Mexico, via Arizona and California, Raban said.

In other busts, 2,000 ecstasy pills were confiscated in February and 150 pounds of marijuana were seized earlier in April. In all this year to date, troopers have conducted 32 seizures of drugs and suspected drug money along I-70, Interstate 80 and Interstate 15, the UHP reported.
