Legislative leaders once discussed holding a wide-ranging illegal-immigration summit loaded with national experts this summer.
But the idea championed by Sen. Howard Stephenson, R-Draper, is now taking the shape of a much smaller "immigration caucus."
The caucus would involve Republicans only and take place in June or July, according to discussions in an open Republican House caucus meeting Wednesday.
Both Senate President John Valentine and House Majority Leader David Clark said the caucus is still in the planning phase.
Clark said House members expressed "a great deal of interest." But lawmakers are having a difficult time lining up experts, Valentine said.
