Salt Lake County has hired Lorna Vogt, who served as deputy director of the Harm Reduction Project, to head its Open Space Trust Fund program.
As open-space manager, Vogt will oversee the disbursement of a $48 million bond to preserve open spaces and buy park land. The bond was approved by voters in November.
"We are very fortunate to have someone of Ms. Vogt's caliber join us," said Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon. "Lorna will be in the front lines on developing the needed public-private partnerships to preserve our valuable open space."
Over the past three years, the county has worked with nonprofits and public agencies to protect a 14-acre trail head at the base of Grandeur Peak, 190 acres of Perkins Flat in Emigration Canyon and Draper's Corner Canyon. - Derek P. Jensen
