A Utah judge refused to grant an injunction Friday that would have shut down the operation of the state's Child Protection Registry site used to block unsolicited adult-oriented e-mails from reaching children.

U.S. District Court Judge Dale A. Kimball denied the injunction, which was filed by a coalition representing business in the adult entertainment industry, said a statement released by the Utah Attorney General's Office. The coalition argued that the registry violates the First Amendment rights of its members.

Kimball's ruling allows the registry to remain open until the case is decided by a court. The registry allows parents to register their child's e-mail address so unsolicited adult content is blocked.
