In the heat of the summer, Salt Lake City residents will see a bump, albeit modest, in their water bills.
Beginning July 1, rates will jump 4 percent - an average increase of $1.12 per month - to help fund larger water lines to improve fire protection.
The move means the average annual water bill will climb from $336 to $349, according to Jim Lewis, finance administrator for the Salt Lake City Public Utilities Department.
It follows a 4 percent water hike that went into effect in 2006. The City Council approved both increases last year.
The rate change will be applied to all Salt Lake City residents, along with bench dwellers who are served by the capital utility.
