Rocky vs. Hannity: March Madness in April

If the Huntsman Center cannot host tournament basketball, why not an arena-sized cage match between Rocky Anderson and Sean Hannity?

So hopes University of Utah senior Jeff Browning, who is working the phones to schedule the smack-down over President Bush's impeachment for April 20 in the U.'s 15,000-seat venue.

"It has so much momentum right now, it's not slowing down," said Browning, who has arranged a conference call with the stakeholders Wednesday. "It will happen."

If it does, Browning said security and planning will cost about $14,000. That money probably would have to be raised separately, since proceeds from the political debate are destined for charity. If deemed the victor by the audience, Hannity has pledged the money to Primary Children's Medical Center. Anderson's choice: Salt Lake City's Guadalupe Schools.

Browning would like an allotment of tickets set aside for U. students. And the sociology major wants Hannity to pay his own way (unlike his 2004 visit to counteract Bush-bashing filmmaker Michael Moore).

Still, the no-nonsense senior has a serious rooting interest. After all, Browning worked as an intern on Hannity's radio show and serves as vice chairman of the U.'s college Republicans.

"I don't want to see Bush impeached," he offered, sternly.

Ah, the madness is here.
