Confusion at the scene of an alleged home invasion robbery early Thursday in Salt Lake City ended when one purported victim was bitten by a police dog.

Shortly after midnight, a man reported three men wearing black clothing and black bandanas - one with a shotgun - had entered his home through an unlocked door, police said. He fled after warning a roommate.

The man told police he thought the intruders might still be inside, so officers surrounded the home and tried to contact the roommates by phone, pounding and yelling at the front door and with a public address system.

With no response, officers forced open the door - now locked - and began searching the house. They yelled and identified themselves as officers several times before finding the roommates in a bedroom with the door closed, police said.

The roommates "were very uncooperative with officers, making officers believe at the time that they might be the suspects," according to police statement.

The officers released a police service dog, which bit one of the roommates on the leg. The man was treated at the scene for small cuts and released. The roommates claimed they knew nothing about a robbery, although the man who initially fled the home insisted his story was true, according to police.
