WASHINGTON - The Energy Department's top congressional affairs official has been hired as EnergySolutions' top congressional lobbyist, the company said Monday.

Jill Sigal currently serves as assistant secretary for congressional and intergovernmental affairs at the Energy Department.

Steve Creamer, CEO of the Utah-based radioactive waste disposal firm, said Sigal's experience would be an “asset to our company,” and her work was praised in a statement by Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman.

“The Department of Energy and the country are better off having had Jill serve,” the secretary said in a company news release. “From the very beginning of my tenure as the Secretary of Energy, Jill has been a loyal and trusted adviser.”

Bodman said Sigal helped pass the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and pressed the department's top environmental cleanup projects.

“I've had a tremendous opportunity promoting new energy policies by serving in government, now I'm looking forward to joining EnergySolutions as they fulfill their vision to become a successful global nuclear firm,” Sigal said.

Sigal graduated from the University of Vermont and earned a law degree at George Washington University.
