SANDY - The City Council here voiced unanimous support Tuesday for the creation of a public-private partnership to construct Real Salt Lake's soccer stadium and accompanying development planned near 9400 South and State Street.

The resolution passed with no discussion.

Although the City Council's agenda described the resolution as one backing Mayor Tom Dolan's efforts to secure the project, wording in the final resolution simply said both the mayor and the council support "the process" for bringing a Major League Soccer stadium to Sandy.

Councilman Chris McCandless was absent for the vote, but Chairman Dennis Tenney said McCandless plans to sign the resolution.

"Our hope is that this resolution will make it crystal clear that there is no division in the ranks," Tenney said in an interview last Friday. "It is time [for Salt Lake County] to complete their due diligence process in an appropriate but a fast-track manner so all of these issues can be resolved . . . during the course of the legislative session."

Tenney said he hopes the message will be interpreted "positively" by Salt Lake County officials.
