OGDEN - Utah Rep. Neil Hansen, a Democrat and former city employee, announced Monday that he will run for Ogden mayor next fall, challenging Mayor Matthew Godfrey - should the mayor go for a third term.

Hansen, who has represented House District 9 the past eight years, said in a news release that his goals would be to invite public input on decisions affecting residents, public safety and crime reduction; and focus on commerce in the downtown area, business growth and continued economic development.

Hansen worked in the water and parks departments in a 20-year career with the city. He left in 2002.

Godfrey has not said whether he will run again.

Hansen also ran for mayor four years ago, but was eliminated in the nonpartisan primary. Councilman Jesse Garcia ended up challenging - and losing - to Godfrey.
