New County Attorney Jeff Buhman and new Commissioner Gary Anderson headlined the list of Utah County officials, all Republicans, sworn in Tuesday.
Buhman and Anderson beat out two longtime GOP incumbents - former County Attorney Kay Bryson and Commissioner Jerry Grover - to take over two of the county's highest-profile posts.
I appreciate [the voters'] confidence, and I'll do all that I can to live up to their trust, Buhman said after taking the oath.
Anderson wasted no time getting involved, being named commission vice chairman in the meeting shortly after his swearing-in.
Re-elected Commissioner Steve White will be the commission chairman.
I would like the press to note that our first vote was a unanimous vote, Anderson joked as he, White and Commissioner Larry Ellertson voted on the new positions.
Anderson, along with the other commissioners will make $89,544 this year, an $8,000 boost from the previous commission salary.
Buhman will top all county elected officials at $105,378 while newly re-elected Sheriff Jim Tracy will earn $96,018.
All told, 4th District Judge Lynn Davis swore in eight county officials, including Tracy.
It's usually your officers that wake me up in the middle of the night to have search warrants, Davis told the sheriff. But I'll still swear you in.
Other newcomers were Treasurer Robert Kirk and Clerk/Auditor Bryan Thompson. Assessor Kris Poulson and Recorder Randy Covington started new terms.
Ellertson was the only county official whose term bridged the new election.
I would welcome those newly sworn-in officials - that also gives you the license to be sworn at, I'm told, Ellertson jested. This has been a heavy burden for the last little while, where I have been the only sworn-in county official for the last few hours. toddh@sltrib.com
