Sheriff-elect James Winder announced Tuesday the names of three men who have accepted his invitation to serve in undersheriff and chief deputy positions.

South Salt Lake Police Chief Beau Babka will take the reigns as Winder's undersheriff on Jan. 2, 2007. Babka has risen through the ranks in South Salt Lake since starting his law enforcement career in 1992. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University and sits on the board of trustees for Salt Lake Community College.

Sheriff's Sgt. Shane Hudson has accepted Winder's appointment to chief deputy of the law enforcement bureau. Hudson is an "oft-decorated" 19-year veteran of the sheriff's office, according to a department press release. Hudson has been a sergeant for eight years and has spent much of his career focused on working with youth.

Sheriff's Deputy Rollin Cook will stay in place as chief deputy for corrections. Cook was appointed to that position by Sheriff Aaron Kennard in December 2004.
