The Dixie National Forest has begun the process of establishing a new motorized travel plan for the forest and is accepting public comment through the end of January. Dixie National Forest officials have been developing a motorized plan for several years. The plan will designate a system of routes and areas open to motorized travel and generally prohibit motorized travel off those routes.

Open houses are scheduled throughout southern Utah and in Salt Lake City to provide information and get public comments about the proposed action. The Salt Lake City session is scheduled for Jan. 18 in the downtown City Library from noon to 8 p.m.

After collecting information gathered during the public comment period and at the open houses, Dixie National Forest will prepare a draft environmental impact statement. That will be released for public review next year, to be followed by a final record of decision.
