BRIGHAM CITY - Depending on economic growth, Box Elder County residents could see a slight bump in their property taxes during the coming year. Under the 2007 budget approved unanimously Tuesday by the County Commission, property-tax revenue will go up 3.2 percent. If economic growth doesn't cover that higher revenue, residents could pay about 37 cents more per month on a home approaching $200,000 in market value, said Roger Handy, auditor. Businesses would pay about double that amount. The new budget of just more than $22 million includes 3.2 percent cost-of-living raises for all employees, an additional dispatch employee and $300,000 more for the road department to cover higher fuel costs. The commission also budgeted $65,000 to pay another county - likely Cache - to house inmates when Box Elder County's jail is full, Handy said. - Kristen Moulton
