Posted: 12:49 PM- A 39-year-old Davis County man pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree felony child-abuse homicide in connection with a suicide pact that resulted in the death of 16-year-old Samantha Mikesell in Mueller Park last summer.

Walter Andrew White also pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual activity with a 16- or 17-year-old, dealing in harmful material to a minor and obstructing justice, all third-degree felonies.

As part of a plea bargain agreement, prosecutors dismissed one count of third-degree felony desecration of a dead human body and one count of unlawful sexual activity with a 16- or 17-year-old.

Prosecutor have agreed to recommend that the third-degree felonies run concurrently, but may argue that those convictions run consecutively to the homicide conviction.

That means White could face up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 14 by 2nd District Judge Darwin Hansen.

On July 5, 2006, White went with Mikesell to the foothills above Bountiful to commit suicide, and White provided the girl with a prescription medication "to effect her death," according to court documents.

Police say the girl ingested a lethal dose of imipramine, an anti-depressant sold under the brand name Tofranil.

White - who claims he also ingested pills - woke up the next morning, but the girl did not.

He then dragged her body to a more secluded area and also hid some of the pill bottles, according to court documents.

White - who is a registered sex offender - had been having sexual relations with the girl since October 2005. He also showed the girl pornographic Web sites on his computer, according to charging documents.

He has been listed on Utah's sex offender registry since 1996, when he pleaded guilty to lewdness involving a child and was sentenced to six days in jail and a year's probation.

In that case, White admitted putting two holes in the wall of a Bountiful apartment so he could watch young girls in the bedroom of their adjacent unit, according to a police affidavit. He also admitted stealing underwear from the girls' apartment.
