U.S. gives Utah $9.5M for transit

WASHINGTON -The U.S. Department of Transportation is doling out $9.5 million in grants for Utah projects, including nearly $6.8 million to boost the fleet of Utah Transit Authority buses. UTA will get $6.77 million toward the purchase of two-dozen, 40-foot-long buses and related equipment for replacement of retiring buses, according to Rep. Chris Cannon's office. The DOT is also giving $1.8 million toward the construction of the intermodal terminal near Salt Lake City's The Gateway mall and also for the purchase of land for a similar terminal in West Valley City. Additionally, the new light-rail station in Sandy will get $875,000 in federal funds. - Thomas Burr
