Dog lovers looking for a haven in West Jordan may get their wish, but only if their City Council agrees to a spruced-up facility and more parking.

On Tuesday, Salt Lake County officials agreed to funnel $400,000 toward dog and skate parks at the Ron Wood Park at 6000 W. New Bingham Highway (7800 South).

But the canine cash comes with some rules: The west-side suburb must use $267,000 - $50,000 more than it wanted - on the pooch playground with the rest available for the skateboard facility.

If the City Council accepts the offer, officials must add parking, ensure year-round accessibility, make the park compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and provide benches, trash bins and a pavilion. The county also dictated a pet "spray-off station" in the deal proposed by the county's Parks and Recreation Department then passed by the County Council.

"I'm absolutely delighted," Tony McGuire, a West Jordan resident who has led dog-park charge, told the council.
