An 18-year-old hiker had to be rescued from Rocky Mountain Canyon in Sandy on Wednesday night after a rock fell and hit him in the head.
The man was off the trail in a rock field about a half mile up the canyon when a lose rock above him fell and hit him, said Sandy Fire Department Capt. Robert DeKorver said.
The incident happened about 7:20 p.m. The hiker's friends called 911 when they realized he couldn't get down the trail on his own.
DeKorver said it appears the man may have broken bones as well but he was conscious and alert. Search and rescue crews from the Unified Police Department were bring him off the mountain just after 9:30 p.m.
