Snow and ice likely contributed to a head-on crash that killed a 33-year-old Blanding woman Thursday on U.S. 491 in southeastern Utah.
Liberty R. Little was driving a Ford Explorer eastbound about 9:10 a.m., 4 miles east of Monticello, when the vehicle spun out of control and into the westbound lanes, said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden. She collided head-on with a Toyota 4Runner, Roden said.
Little died at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was taken to the San Juan County Hospital and later flown in critical condition to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Roden said. Her identity was not immediately released.
Little was wearing a seatbelt, while the driver of the 4Runner was not.
Alcohol also may have played a factor, Roden said.
