In an era when one can find anything on the Internet, health care should not be far behind, according to Utah legislators.

SJR16 urges health care companies to become more transparent by making policies available to the public and to publish financial assistance, including information on discounts and billing procedures, online.

The resolution, introduced by Sen. Peter Knudson, R-Brigham City, passed both the Senate committee and floor unanimously. The resolution then passed the House unanimously and was sent Thursday to the governor for his action.

"Transparency in health care is extremely important because it allows us all to be aware of what's going on in the health care industry," said Rep. Evan Vickers, R-Cedar City. "The ultimate goal is to help make things available to the public, help people make good decisions and hopefully, overall, reduce health care costs."
