A Sandy home sustained about $25,000 in damage after a fire broke out in the basement.

No one was home at the time, but the homeowner returned, saw smoke and called 911. It took crews about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire. The flames were contained to one room, and there is some smoke damage to the house.

No one was injured, though three cats died of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
