Man allegedly reaches through open window, hits other man with gun

A Salt Lake City man is charged with aggravated assault after he reached through an open bedroom window and hit another man on the head with a gun.

The 22-year-old man targeted the other man on Feb. 11 at a Salt Lake City apartment on the 2400 South block of 800 East, according to charging documents filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court.

The man hit the other man in the head with a gun and then pointed the gun at the victim, charges state. He carried out the attack wearing a red bandana over his face, a red hat with white designs and a red hoodie, according to charges.

Salt Lake City police traced the suspect to his and his girlfriend's apartment on the 400 South block of East Stonehedge Drive (4180 South). The suspect's girlfriend allowed police to search the apartment, where police found a red bandana, red hoodie and a marijuana pipe, charges state. Officers later found a shotgun in the apartment. The man told police he kept a loaded shotgun underneath his mattress -- but it was the same bed where his two young children sleep, according to charges.

The man is charged with third-degree felony aggravated assault and two counts of child endangerment, a third-degree felony. The man's girlfriend is charged with obstructing justice, a third-degree felony and two counts of child endangerment, also third-degree felonies.

The case is assigned to gang prosecutors in the Salt Lake County Attorney's Office.
