A 42-year-old Provo man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of trying to kidnap a 4-year-old girl who was playing in her yard.

The attempted kidnapping occurred at a home near 700 North and 900 West, Provo police reported.

The man was apparently holding the girl's stomach and arm while she was playing in a yard, a woman who lived at the home told police. The woman ran to the girl and heard the man tell the girl "you're coming with me," Provo police reported.

The woman than grabbed the young girl's arm as the man tried to walk away with her. The woman screamed at the man, grabbed the girl and ran back to her home, police said.

The man followed them to the front door of the woman's home and tried to get in. When he couldn't, he left the area.

Neighbors witnessed the incident and called police. Officer found the man a few houses away and arrested him without incident, Provo police said.

He was booked into the Utah County jail on suspicion of child kidnapping, attempted burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
