The Utah Highway Patrol and West Valley City police captured a Salt Lake City man who led them on a short chase Saturday afternoon.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper pulled over the 26-year-old man for a routine traffic stop near 600 N. 1300 West about 4 p.m. Saturday. The man took off from the scene, driving south on Interstate 15 and then west on Interstate 80, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Steve Winward.

The Utah Highway Patrol followed the man to Bangerter Highway, where he stopped near 3600 W. 2600 South. The man got out of his vehicle and brandished a gun at officers before he ran from the scene, Winward said.

West Valley City police arrived to assist and tracked the man to a nearby apartment complex. The suspect surrendered when police arrived at the building, Winward said.

He said the man is wanted in connection with an assault investigation in Salt Lake City. He was taken into custody about 4:15 p.m. and is being held in the Salt Lake County jail.

No one was injured during the pursuit.
