Authorities have interviewed a woman sought as part of the investigation into the death of former Brigham Young University professor Kay Mortensen, but found she wasn't involved in the case.
The woman, initially considered a potential witness, came to police Thursday, the same day police released her picture to the media, said Utah County Sgt. Shaun Cowden.
"They found her and have eliminated her as having any part of it. She is no longer a person of interest," Cowden said. The picture released was taken by a gas station security camera Nov. 16, the night Mortensen was killed.
No arrests have been made in the case.
Mortensen's son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Pamela Mortensen, were named last month as "persons of interest" in the case. The couple have claimed they were held hostage by two men and tied up at Mortensen's home during the slaying.
In a 911 call, the pair told a dispatcher Mortensen's throat had been slashed.
Investigators have said Roger and Pamela Mortensen have given inconsistent statements and failed to fully cooperate with them. A lawyer representing the pair has denied that.
