Authorities say a disabled former nurse in Holmes County called a Utah animal shelter for help with 58 dogs in her falling-down house.

Doll Stanley, director of investigations for the Mid-South office of In Defense of Animals, says her group was called in by the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.

Stanley says many of the dogs will be taken on Tuesday to a Denver shelter, because the one in Mississippi is full.

Neither she nor veterinarian Walter Roberts, who helped remove 19 of the dogs and treat those needing urgent care, would identify the woman. They say she is elderly, and was doing all she could.

Stanley says one side of the house had fallen off, but the woman stayed there to keep taking care of the dogs.
