A man accused of raping an 18-year-old woman was arrested after the woman was able to fool her attacker by pretending to call her sister but instead calling police.
The alleged rape occurred Wednesday in Utah County. Jake Machan, 25, of Sandy, was arrested on suspicion of rape and aggravating kidnapping, a police report states.
The woman had apparently known Machan for about a month after being introduced to him by a friend, she told police. She spoke with him Wednesday evening and asked him to take her to the store for cigarettes.
While sitting in the parking lot, Machan gave the woman what she thought was vodka. She drank some, she later told police, and then began to feel tired. She asked Machan to take her home because her kidneys were hurting. He said he would after they ran some errands, the police report stated.
The woman lost consciousness and when she awoke Machan was having sex with her, she told police. She started crying and told him to stop, she said.
The woman then told Machan she had to call her sister, but really called 911, the police report stated. She was able to whisper for help and then talk to a dispatcher by answering questions yes and no.
Police were able to locate Machan and the woman in western Utah County. They arrested Machan and booked him into the Utah County jail.
