Free heart health fair in Murray

Intermountain Medical Center in Murray will offer a free community healthy heart fair from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday as part of National Heart Failure Awareness week.

The fair will be held in the Education Auditorium on the Intermountain Medical Center campus, near 5300 South and State Street. Free heart screenings, lectures on heart health, booths and services are scheduled, to teach participants about their heart attack risk, symptoms of heart failure and prevention.

Heart failure is the leading cause of hospitalizations for people over age 65. Common risk factors include high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, diabetes, obesity and heart valve disease. Common symptoms include shortness of breath or fatigue, weakness in the legs during activity, persistent cough, and swelling in the feet, ankles, legs or abdomen.

The event is sponsored by the hospital's Heart Failure Prevention and Treatment Program.
