Utah lawmakers have advanced a bill that would make it legal to show or speak of a concealed gun to defuse a confrontation.
HB78 clarifies the state's concealed-carry law so that weapon owners can feel confident using them without actually drawing and pointing them at a potential opponent. It's meant to make carrying a weapon safer and less likely to lead to accidental shootings, according to the bill's sponsor, Rep. Stephen Sandstrom.
"Bad guys want to commit crimes," the Orem Republican said. "They do not want to get shot doing it."
The House approved the measure 63-3 and sent it to the Senate.
