Three young children can thank their grandma for being alive, according to Ogden Fire Battalion Chief Steve Splinter.
Investigators reportedly believe it was the kids, playing with a cigarette lighter in a back room, who started the Wednesday night blaze in the home near 300 Madison Avenue.
Their grandmother acted quickly, evacuating the children, all under age 5, along with two teenagers who also lived in the structure.
No one was injured, but damage was estimated at $25,000.
The Red Cross said in a statement Thursday that it is assisting the family in finding shelter, meals and clothing.
Those wishing to help the family may call the Northern Utah chapter of the Red Cross at 801-627-0000.
