With Utah facing a steep increase in residents with dementia, legislators took the first step Wednesday toward approving a resolution on Alzheimer's disease and dementia awareness.

Legislators are encouraging Utahns to adopt a "brain-healthy" lifestyle. The state is expected to see a 127 percent increase in the number of residents with some type of dementia between 2000 and 2025, the greatest predicted growth in the nation.

More than 40,000 Utahns have some kind of dementia; one in eight people over 65. Utahns in their 30s and 40s have also struggled with the disease.
