Saratoga Springs » The City Council will interview two finalists next week to replace Mia Love on the governing body.
The council, in a work session Tuesday, agreed to recommend two candidates from among the six vying for the council seat Love vacated when she became mayor in January. The two who receive the most council votes will move on to interviews at the next regular council meeting.
Love said Utah League of Cities and Towns attorney David Church recommended the method for choosing the replacement. State law requires final interviews be done in a public meeting, but Love said there was no requirement to interview each candidate.
She said the last time the council had to fill a vacancy, 21 people were interviewed who were interested in the seat.
The candidates vying for Love's seat:
» Benjamin L. Beck, a project engineer with Peck Ormsby Construction in Lehi who has worked as a wildland firefighter for Utah County.
» K. C. Bills, an acquisitions manager for Amsource Companies in Salt Lake City who was a starting safety on the BYU football team in 2000 and 2003-06.
» Michael R. Simpson, a computer network engineer at Utah Valley University who previously ran for the council.
» Timothy L. Taylor, currently chief deputy Utah County attorney, and a former city attorney. He also served on the council from 2000 to 2006.
» Cecil E. Tuley, who previously served on the council, filling a seat vacated by Jefferson Moss in 2009. He lost his city council election bid in November.
» Lance Wadman, a manager with Centershift in Midvale who ran for council last year.
