A man accused of severely beating his 86-year-old landlady in December was extradited to Utah and booked into the Salt Lake County jail Monday.

Arthel Burnett Martin, 45, is being held on $1 million bail.

Martin walked into a California Highway Patrol office near San Francisco early last month and admitted to beating Ann Smart-Pearce in her Brickyard home, police said.

Martin is charged with attempted murder and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies. He is also charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult, a class A misdemeanor.
