A 54-year-old Wellsville man died after a five-car pileup involving a Ryder moving truck and an airport shuttle Monday night on U.S. Highway 89 between Brigham City and Logan.

The moving truck and airport shuttle were traveling south through Sardine Canyon about 6 p.m. when the truck drove into the northbound lane, causing a collision with three northbound passenger cars and the airport shuttle, said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden.

The driver of one of the passenger cars, Robert L. Smith, died, Roden said. Two 17-year-old boys in another car were critically injured and flown to separate hospitals. The driver of the truck and the driver of the third passenger car were in fair condition, Roden said. No one was injured in the airport shuttle, Roden said.
