A Payson woman died after the motorcycle she was riding on overturned in California on Friday, police said.

Karen Baker, 53, was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson behind her husband, Colton Baker, 55, on Friday, said California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Davidson. They were part of a group of six motorcycles.

The group was just west of Lucerne Valley on Highway 18 when a vehicle stopped in front of them to make a left-hand turn at about 4:10 p.m., Davidson said. The Bakers were fifth in line and did not see the traffic in time to slow down, Davidson said. The bike veered off the road and overturned, throwing both riders. Karen Baker had a helmet, but it may not have been strapped on properly because it came off her head before she struck the ground.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Colton Baker, who was wearing a helmet, suffered minor injuries. Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash.
