Friends and family of Susan Powell will kick off a 72-hour e-mail and social media blitz Monday to help find the West Valley City woman who disappeared almost a month ago.
The campaign begins at 8 a.m., said Powell's friend, Kiirsi Hellewell. Those interested in participating are asked to send an e-mail to findsusanpowell@gmail.com. They will receive a response e-mail with instructions on how to send to five friends another e-mail to help find Susan Powell. Those people are then instructed to forward the e-mail again to five other people.
Hellewell said people who use the micro-blogging site twitter.com are being asked to send a tweet about Powell. The goal would be to get enough people to twitter about Powell that it becomes a top-10 topic on that Web site, Hellewell said.
A slide show with pictures of Susan Powell will be posted on youtube.com today and on the Facebook page, "Friends and Family of Susan Powell," at facebook.com.
Hellewell said she and several friends made about 200 purple ribbons they had planned to pass out Sunday at church. She is encouraging others to make purple ribbons to wear, tie around trees or attach to cars.
Powell was reported missing Dec. 7. Her husband Josh Powell said he last saw her about 12:30 a.m. that day at the couple's West Valley City home, before he took his two young sons camping in the snowy west desert of Utah. Police say they are investigating her disappearance as a missing-person case.
The social media blitz is scheduled to last until 8 a.m Thursday. The ribbon campaign will run indefinitely, Hellewell said.
