Former Mapleton Controller Jeannie Kay Bell will be back before a 4th District Court judge in Provo on Thursday.
Bell, who is facing a 2nd-degree felony theft charge, was booked into the Utah County Jail on Dec. 8, almost a month after she was apprehended in Las Vegas. Bell, 48, failed to appear for arraignment Nov. 5, and Judge James Taylor issued a bench warrant for her arrest.
Douglas A. Baxter, Bell's attorney, said she did not fight extradition from Nevada. He believed the delay in bringing her back had to do with the cost of sending officers to Las Vegas to bring her back.
Baxter said Wednesday that he hasn't spoken to Bell yet, and does not know why she didn't show up at her first arraignment hearing.
Prosecutors allege Bell purchased stamps and gift cards with city money, sold them on eBay and pocketed the proceeds. She allegedly embezzled at least $5,000 from the city.
If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Mayor Laurel Brady earlier said the city would push for full restitution from Bell.
