A man was critically injured when he was hit by a sports utility vehicle during rush hour Monday in South Salt Lake.
The victim, 40, walked into traffic about 5:30 p.m. on 3300 South at 250 West, said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller. The driver who hit him tried to help him, but "his injuries were quite severe," Keller said.
The driver did not see the man because it was dark, and the man "just stepped out in front of him all of a sudden," Keller said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with head and leg injuries, Keller said. The man, whose identity was not immediately released, remained in critical condition Tuesday.
