Woman dies from 1,000-foot fall in Zion park

A woman died in Zion National Park on Friday after falling 1,000 feet from a popular trail.

Tammy Grunig, 50, of Pocatello, Idaho and St. George, fell from the north side of Angels Landing while hiking, according to the National Park Service. The park service and Washington County Sheriff's office is investigated the fall.

Another hiker called 911 about 2 p.m. Friday, after Grunig fell, the park service said. Her body was located and recovered by 6:30 p.m. The trail was closed shortly during the investigation and recovery operation.
