Draper police arrested a 50-year-old man who threatened to rob a convenience store Thursday afternoon.
At about 4:40 p.m., the man gathered several items at the Maverik store, 11415 S. 700 East, said Draper police Officer Michael Street. He put them on the store counter, but instead of paying he walked around and threatened the clerk behind the register.
"He was intoxicated at the time and told the clerk he was going to take whatever he wanted," Street said. An off-duty Sandy police officer saw the incident, and had his wife call 911. He stopped the would-be robber and held him until police arrived. The man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault and public intoxication.
