It's looking like a good weather holiday for Utah travelers and revelers hunkering down at home.

According to forecaster Eric Schoening of the Salt Lake office of the National Weather Service, a high pressure system is expected to remain in place through Thanksgiving, causing an inversion in the valleys that will keep night-time temperatures in the mid-20s, with highs in the mid-40s.

There is a possibility of two small storms passing through between Friday and Sunday but neither appear to be big enough to make driving or air travel a problem.

The first storm is expected to approach northern Utah on Friday and move through Saturday morning, with a chance of rain and snow in valleys and mountains.

"It's not looking like a particularly strong system," said Schoening. "Sunday is a little more uncertain. One model has a little wave coming by Sunday morning so there is a chance of some mostly light precipitation Sunday morning but things should be clearing out in northern Utah Sunday evening."

There are seven ski areas open with limited terrain, mostly using man-made snow. Snowbasin is scheduled to open today and the Canyons on Friday.

In addition, Gorgoza Park in Parleys Canyon will open its tubing lanes Friday through Sunday. The resort will close Monday to complete snowmaking preparations and plans to open for the winter on Dec. 5.
