A 67-year-old woman fell to her death at the Salt Lake Senior Citizen High Rise near 1900 South and 200 East while apparently cleaning her balcony.
The woman, whose name has not been released, fell from the 14th floor of the building just before 3 p.m., said Salt Lake City police Lt. Scott White.
A staff member at the building heard the woman hit the ground, he said. Her body was found a few minutes later in a grassy area.
"It's just horrible, just horrible," White said.
Investigators believe the woman climbed onto a chair or stool to clean windows, slipped and fell over the 4½-foot railing.
The woman was cooking a roast in her apartment with the radio on when she fell, White said. Police also found a "to do" list that included cleaning the balcony, he said.
The woman lived alone and was home by herself when she fell, White said. A broom was found not far from where her body was discovered.
Police are still trying to contact family members before releasing her identity.
