An accident near a construction project is snarling traffic on southbound Interstate 15 in the Midvale-Sandy area, police said.

Three cars crashed near 8000 South about 2:45 p.m., said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ted Tingey. No one was seriously injured.

The construction zone begins at 9400 South and ends near 11000 South, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

The combination of the two created a large backup of Friday's early rush hour traffic, Tingey said.
