A Taylorsville man -- who was 17 when he fatally shook his 1-month-old daughter -- will spend at least 20 years in prison before any chance at release, the Utah Board of Pardons announced Friday.

Cleotis Shipman Jr. will have his first parole hearing in November 2027.

Shipman pleaded guilty in 3rd District Court to first-degree felony child-abuse homicide and was sentenced to five years to life for shaking Qiana Shipman on Nov. 19, 2007. The infant died two days later of severe brain damage.
