A one-vehicle accident had southbound Interstate 15 traffic out of Davis County into the Salt Lake Valley at a crawl at the worst possible time Thursday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Ed Michaud said the 6:13 a.m. accident occurred when the 70-year-old driver of a southbound pickup truck "got confused by a lane shift" temporarily set up for construction near the Beck Street exit. He crashed into the median, ending up high-centered on the cement barrier wall.

The man escaped injury, and the wreckage had been cleared by 7:40 a.m., Michaud said.

However, commuter traffic was stop-and-go through the area for more than an hour. Southbound lanes were clogged as far back as Bountiful and Centerville at the height of the morning commute, authorities said.
