Shane Siwik, one of the longest serving members on the South Salt Lake City Council, resigned his seat Wednesday night.

Siwik, who has been on the council for 10 years, said he is planning to move out of South Salt Lake, possibly to Montana or southern Utah.

"I greatly appreciate the opportunity [my constituents] gave me to represent them," he said. "What I enjoyed the most was seeing how little things could turn into larger things over time, seeing the difference that anybody -- not just me -- can make in a community."

In the next few weeks, the remaining six City Council members are tasked with appointing Siwik's replacement. Residents of District 5 can submit applications with the South Salt Lake city recorder.

Siwik, who has six kids, said his family has outgrown its three-bedroom home. His parents, who live in another house on the 2-acre lot and own the land, are interested in selling the property.
