Roy police arrested an Ogden teenager after he allegedly shot at a purported drug dealer during a botched robbery.
The 17-year-old was arrested after a brief car chase. Two other juveniles in the car -- a 16-year-old from Roy and a 17-year-old from Ogden -- were questioned and released to their parents, said Roy police Sgt. Shawn O'Malley. He said Tuesday that investigators were still trying to find the alleged target of the holdup that was reported Saturday night.
The incident, according to witnesses, began as a transaction for the drug Ecstasy, but the teen pulled a gun and demanded drugs and whatever money the dealer had. When the drug dealer sped away, the teen reportedly fired at least two shots at the fleeing vehicle.
O'Malley said the driver was not thought to have been hit by the bullets. "There were no reports over the past few days of any gunshot victims in local hospitals, so as far as we know he wasn't wounded. But he certainly is someone we want speak with, if we can find him," O'Malley said.
O'Malley said police had recovered a .22-caliber pistol, despite the teen's attempt to discard the weapon.
The teen remained in Weber County Jail on Tuesday, where he was booked on suspicion of attempted robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle and obstruction of justice.
