The Utah Multi-Cultural Business Expo set to run today and Wednesday has been postponed until April 20-21.

The delay was prompted by economic concerns, said Stanley Ellington, chairman of United 4 Economic Development, which planned the event.

"We had low participation and we could not generate enough sponsorships or generate enough booth sales to pay for the event," Ellington said Monday.

Individuals and businesses who paid registration fees to participate have two options to safeguard their investment, Ellington said.

"They can either roll over their funds to the upcoming event, because we did reschedule it for April, or we will do a refund as soon as we can do that with them," he said.

Sponsorship prices ranged from $2,000 to $10,000.

Ellington also is executive director of the Utah Black Chamber of Commerce.

The expo would have been staged at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. It was described as a trade show that also would feature business workshops, entertainment and networking opportunities to minority businesspeople.

U4ED is a nonprofit group that assists minorities in Utah with business development and other services.
