A badly decomposed body found in Ogden Canyon is that of a man estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, police said.

Weber County Sheriff's deputies are focusing on a key to a post office box the man carried as a clue to his identity, said sheriff's Capt. Klint Anderson.

"That's our best lead right now, if we can find out what box it goes to," he said. "We'd have a name at least."

The man also carried a Kia car key and a small backpack, but no identification. He appeared to have blonde hair, but the color could have been bleached after his death, Anderson said. The body was found by hunters just before noon Saturday, above a waterfall on the north side of the canyon's mouth, Anderson said. A violent cause of death does not look likely, but "we haven't ruled out foul play. We haven't ruled anything out."

An autopsy on the body continued Sunday afternoon, with results expected in the next few days. Deputies are planning to look for his postal box at the Ogden post office Monday, Anderson said.

The body was found about 20 yards off the trail, and had been there several months, Anderson said. Deputies are looking through missing-person reports along the Wasatch Front for matches to the body. The man does not match any missing person reports in Weber County.

Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call police at 801-629-8221.
